Life update! After almost 7 years, I finally leapt out of the fashion retail industry. It was honestly an easy decision to make as I was starting to feel uninspired and a lot of what I was doing in my previous job seemed like such a chore. It was September 2018 when I started to feel like I needed a life change and knew that it had something to do with my career.
I was initially eyeing a position in a certain prestigious beauty company. After 3 rounds of interviews (which I believed I nailed!) and almost a month of waiting, I never heard back from them. I followed up twice and they just told me that they’re still shortlisting candidates. I kinda took it hard since I poured so much energy into my interviews – I really wanted to get the job! I don’t think I’ve ever prepared that much for an interview, pages of notes and all. I heartbreakingly moved on and started looking for more options. I was starting to feel desperate, so I literally sent out my CVs to a handful of companies, some of which weren’t of that much interest to me, hoping at least one would give me an offer I couldn’t turn down.
One day, I randomly spotted a job posting for a media company on an influencer’s Instagram Stories. I thought it was a long shot, since the company was big and I felt like there were a lot of candidates who were more qualified than I am. I gave it a try anyway and sent the job poster (let’s call her “N” from this point on) a message. A few minutes later, N replied back with an interview invite!
Two days later, during the interview, I was informed that I was the first one she’s talked to, and that there were a couple more after me. The interview went surprisingly well and for days after, I would feel very anxious and kept on praying that I’d get the gig. This job was everything I wanted and more – even more than the beauty company post I really wanted to get into!
Fast forward to two weeks after I saw the job posting, I received an email from N saying that she’d love to see if I’d like to take on the role! UHM YES!!! I literally froze after reading her email because I swear, I didn’t think I’d make it!
I didn’t really have an idea of what my dream job was before seeing the job opening and landing the interview, but it ended up being this. And now, it’s not just a dream anymore. It’s my actual job – somebody pinch me!
Now I know why I didn’t get the beauty gig. The Lord had something better in His plans for me, and it’s here. It’s actually here, and I haven’t felt so inspired in quite some time!
So cheers to dreams turning into reality 🥂 and here’s to hoping that this new adventure would lead me to places I’ve never been and experiences I’ve longed to have.
